A native of Derby and a 1999 graduate of St. Francis High School, Dr. Mata received his Bachelors of Science in Biology -- summa cum laude -- from Canisius College in 2003. He then attended the Duke University School of Medicine from which he graduated in 2007. He immediately proceeded into internship and an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Duke which he finished in 2012.
Dr. Mata completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship with MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Md., where his practice provided team coverage for the Washington Nationals professional baseball team and the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL, in addition to college teams such as Johns Hopkins lacrosse, Towson University, Morgan State University, and Loyola Union.
In August 2013, Dr. Mata joined Lakeshore Orthopedic Group as Sports Medicine Specialist. The Group has offices in Dunkirk, N.Y., as well as nearby Western New York communities of Irving, N.Y., and Westfield, N.Y.
