Fredonia University

Coach Jane Gens

Jane Gens

Jane Gens began coaching at Fredonia State in April 2022. In that time she has created a solid roster to compete in DIII tennis throughout Western and Central N.Y.  One of her recent successes was going head to head with Plattsburgh in Binghamton in the fall of 2024.  The Blue Devils pulled off the close win against a formidable team. The women also  proceeded to improve from previous years by capturing more games and sets in league and non-league matches since her arrival.

Jane has an Exercise Science degree from the University at Buffalo and a Masters in Physical Education from Canisius College. She attended Clarence High School and has been PTR certified since 2010. Jane played in the the State Girls Championship while at Clarence in 1982 as a doubles competitor.  She played college tennis at Buffalo State for one year and then three years for the University at Buffalo. While at Buffalo she attended SUNYACs.

Throughout her public school career she coached at Nardin Academy in Buffalo, Watertown City Schools, and North Collins.  While at Watertown she took five young men to a sectional playoff after winning the season and beating the local private school who was in first place. Jane continues to play competitively and participated in a National USTA competition in 2015. She has enjoyed the progress the team has made and appreciates the eight tennis courts at Fredonia state that allow her to have a nice size roster.
