Coach Norton

Rich Norton

Rich Norton began his first season as an assistant coach with the women’s basketball program in 2012-2013. Norton graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and 1991 with a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. He retired from the Silver Creek Central School District in 2018 after 31 years of teaching

Norton has coached a variety of levels of basketball for over 30 years. His most recent stint was as head girls’ varsity coach in Silver Creek High School for nine seasons. Under Norton, Silver Creek won its first division championship in 2008 and finished as Section VI semi-finalists for three consecutive seasons. He amassed over 70 wins during that nine-year stretch.

Norton has been a familiar face around the Fredonia State campus. He has worked as an instructional coach for the past five summers in the Shoot The Lights Out summer basketball camp. He served as assistant soccer coach to both the men’s and women’s programs from 1996-2001. He was an adjunct professor in the Education department for eight years and is currently working in a  recruiting advisory position within the athletic department in addition to his assistant coaching duties
