Ludwig coached the program upon its inception in 1950 through 1970. After a brief absence, he took over the team again from 1975 to 1980.

Recent upgrades to Ludwig Field include a new press box, sound system, bleachers, backstop, and a batters' eye.

The field features home and visitor bullpens and an outdoor batting cage adjacent to the field.

In 2009, the Devils played host to the ECAC Upstate New York Regional Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The field measures 330 feet to each foul pole and 390 feet to center field.
