NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Fredonia State saw its 2026 season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon as the Devils were defeated by Oneonta, 4-0, in the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament at Mary Gray Deane Field in New Paltz. The Dragons utilized a strong performance in the circle to advance, limiting Fredonia State to three hits in the game.
Oneonta took control of the game early with Sophia Camacho leading off with a double for Oneonta and later scoring on an RBI ground out from Emily Brown to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. The Dragons tacked on another run off of a Devils error in the fourth inning to push the lead to 2-0. In the fifth, Jaime Cardello delivered the biggest hit of the afternoon with a two-run double to left center for a 4-0 advantage.
Fredonia State threatened in a handful of innings but was unable to break through offensively. Kayla Lynn finished with two of the Devil's three hits in the contest, while
Eva Gnadzinski added the other.
In the circle, Kendall Phillips took the loss for Fredonia State allowing four runs, three earned, over 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Sabrina Edwards-Smith provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits. Oneonta starter Caitlin McTiernan earned the win to improve to 8-15 after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Anna Torgersen closed out the final 1.1 innings to complete the shutout.
