BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Aided by 12 walks, three hit batters, and five errors, the Hilbert Hawks took down the Fredonia State baseball team, 13-4, on Wednesday. With Hilbert up 6-4 in the seventh, the Hawks scored seven times in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.
Vinny Grazioplene led the offense with a pair of doubles, a stolen base, an RBI, and a run. The Devils used eight different pitchers.
Hilbert scored three times in the bottom of the first -- all three runs coming on bases-loaded free passes.
Fredonia State rebounded in the top of the second to tie the game at 3-all. A
Nick Vitelli ground out plated the first run. Grazioplene scored the second on the steal of home, and the third was driven in on a single by
Brayden Willats.
Hilbert scored once in the bottom of the second, and twice in the third to take the lead for good.
Fredonia State's last run came when Grazioplene's second double of the game scored
Ryan Mettler.
Both teams had seven hits. Hilbert improves to 2-3.
The Devils (1-2) are scheduled for a doubleheader at Allegheny College on Saturday.
