Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bengals upset Devils

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Things looked good for the Fredonia State women's basketball team early on as they jumped out to a 16-4 lead against Buffalo State. However, the Bengals would begin plugging away and use a 10-0 run near the end of the second quarter to take a 36-35 lead at the half, and eventually claim a 69-64 victory.

By the end of the third, the Bengals had built a six-point lead, 52-46, and would hang on the rest of the way. The Devils would twice pull within a point of the Bengals in the fourth quarter, but were unable to capitalize.

Payton Gilbert led the Devils with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Grace Alexander had 16 points and Aliyah Hopkins chipped in 13. Jakiera Stackhouse was the fourth Devil to reach double digits, with 11 points. Ashley Kalvitis had six assists.

Morgan Popp led the Bengals (3-15 / 2-9 SUNYAC) with 13 points and Amya Moore had 10 points and 10 rebinds.

The Devils (11-7 / 6-5 SUNYAC) head to Oneonta and New Paltz next weekend.
