CORTLAND, N.Y. --Â The Fredonia State women's tennis team squared off with one of the SUNYAC's top programs on Saturday morning, falling 7-0 to New Paltz.Â
In doubles play, the Devils' top pair of
Lucy Prevet and
Allison Bartoszek fell 6-0 to Justine Stanejko and Sam Ostrander, while the No. 2 team of
Gabriella Farr and
Amelia Stathatos dropped a 6-0 decision to Olivia Kunz and Patrycja Filonik. Fredonia State was forced to forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
Singles action saw New Paltz maintain control throughout. Prevet battled at No. 1 but was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Stanejko. Farr picked up a game in her opening set before falling 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 against Ostrander. Bartoszek (No. 3), Solazzo (No. 4), and Stathatos (No. 5) each fell in straight sets, while Fredonia was unable to fill the No. 6 singles spot, giving New Paltz a walkover win.
Head coach Jane Gens praised her team's approach and mental toughness despite the loss. "We were in every game by being able to return their services and keep our serve in under pressure," Gens said.

The Devils will return to action next Saturday in a SUNYAC match up against Cortland at home with the match scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
