ONEONTA, N.Y.-- The Fredonia State softball team's postseason run came to a end on Thursday afternoon as the Devils fell 8–1 to the fifth-seeded Oneonta Red Dragons in the opening round of the SUNYAC conference playoffs.
Oneonta seized control of the game early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning punctuated by a grand slam from Oneonta's Kayla Kean. Fredonia State's offense showed signs of life in the second inning with
Madison Lowe getting things going with single to right, followed by a walk to
Kirsten Lajewski.
Brooke Caldwell came through with an RBI single, cutting Oneonta's lead to 5–1.
In the seventh, Oneonta added three insurance runs, two of them unearned, capitalizing on a pair of Devil defensive miscues to put the game out of reach. Oneonta's pitcher Emily Brown had a strong performance, tossing a complete game with 10 strikeouts, walking just two, and scattering three hits over seven innings.
This loss ended Fredonia State's 2025 season. The Devils finished the year with a regular season record of 13-18 and SUNYAC conference record of 10-6.
