FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team won the second game of the doubleheader, 7-4, after dropping the opener, 9-3, vs. New Paltz on Monday.
Game 1
New Paltz scored seven times before the Devils got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hawks starting Michael Weed pitcher would go six innings allowing the one unearned run.
The Devils would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Tyler Curtis and
Cole Schraufstetter both had sacrifice flies. Johnny McHugh would earn a three-inning save for the Hawks. Anthony Pericolosi hit for the cycle for New Paltz. The Devils would muster just four hits.
Starting pitcher
Mike Protz went seven innings, giving up six earned runs.
Hunter Johnson threw the final two innings, allowing one run.
Game 2
A trio or arms --
Connor Burkestone,
Peyton Ahlstrom, and
Joe Tobia -- combined to shut down the Hawks offense. Burkestone had the start and threw the first three innings. Ahlstrom tossed the middle three and took the win.
Joe Tobia earned a three-inning save without allowing a run.
Christian Cabrera had a pair of hits, three RBI, and a diving catch in centerfield to power the Devils.
Vinny Grazioplene had a pair pf hits, including a solo homerun.
Bryce Firkins added two hits and an RBI.
Cole Schraufstetter reached base five times, with an RBI double, two hit by pitches, and two walks.
The Devils hit the road on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Geneva.
