GENESEO, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Kendall Phillips tossed a five-inning shutout, downing Geneseo, 8-0, in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Knights would exact revenge in Game 2, taking a 10-2 victory in five innings.
Game 1
Phillips, now 6-4, went all five, scattering five singles, striking out six, and walking one.
Madison Lowe went 4-4 at the plate, and
Madison Devore added three hits. Four other Devils --
Angelique Palacio,
Avery Hill,
Allie Wandell, and
Brooke Caldwell -- had two hits apiece, as the Devils knocked out 17 hits.
Up 4-0 to start the fifth, the Devils scored four times and held the fort in the bottom of the inning to take the mercy-rule victory.
Game 2
A six-run first inning powered the Knights to a 10-2 win in the nightcap. They would lead 9-2 after three innings.
Offensively,
Allie Wandell went 2-2 with two of the Devils five hits. She added a double and a stolen base, and drove in both runs.
Vanessa Galbraith took the loss on the mound, going four innings giving up eight runs, three earned, while scattering seven hits.
The split leaves Geneseo at 21-9 on the season.
The Devils now stand at 9-15 overall. They are slated to play host to Buffalo State this Saturday at Noon. The team will celebrate Senior Day honoring its four seniors.
