CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State pitching staff held Keuka to four hits and one unearned run on Tuesday's season-opening, 9-1 victory played at Finger Lakes Community College. The staff was under 100 pitches, struck out 15, and did not walk a batter.
Morgan Zientara went the first three innings striking out five.
Joe Tobia (1-0) worked the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, striking out three. Peyton Alhstrom struck out three in his two innings of work.
Nick Syposs pitched the final inning, striking our four. The only run came across after a strike three in the dirt was thrown away, allowing Carl Fantauzzi, who reached on a base hit, to score.
Offensively,
Bryce Firkins,
Christian Pagano, and
Shane Pray each had a pair of hits. Firkins added four stolen bases and a walk, and Pray tripled.
Cole Schraufstetter also tripled in his Blue Devil debut. Pray and
Vinny Grazioplene both drove in a pair of runs.
The Devils will head to Florida for Spring Break this weekend to begin a 10-game stretch in sunny Central Florida.
