BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's hockey team fell in a back-and-forth battle to Buffalo State by a final score of 4-3 on Friday.
Buffalo State struck first on the power play at 14:32 of the opening frame. Jason Kwestel capitalized on the man advantage, scoring with assists from Vadim Kiriakov and Austin Micale to give Buffalo State a 1-0 lead. Fredonia State responded early in the second, as
Gavin Bloder found the back of the net for a unassisted goal at 5:30 to tie the game 1-1.
The Bengals wasted no time reclaiming the lead 11 seconds later, Kwestel notched his second of the night, assisted again by Kiriakov, to put Buffalo State ahead 2-1.
The Devils fought back, leveling the score at 13:14 when Dawson Donor netted his first goal of the season.
Antoine St. Onge provided the assist on the play as the Devils tied the game at 2-2 heading into the final period of regulation.Â
Buffalo State broke the deadlock at 4:39 when Tyler Penree finished off a play set up by Connor Bizal and Michael McCosh, putting the Bengals back on top 3-2. A costly penalty led to Buffalo State's eventual game-winner, as Vadim Kiriakov scored on the power play at 7:59, assisted by Joe Glamos and Jason Kwestel, making it 4-2 in favor of the Bengals.
The Devils continued to battle and pulled within one at 15:57, as St. Onge buried a goal assisted by Connor Loerzel and Garrison Gagnon. Despite a final push with an extra attacker, the Blue Devils couldn't find the equalizer before the final buzzer.
