FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team took visiting Plattsburgh to overtime, but ended up on the short end of a 4-3 game at Steele Hall on Friday evening. Plattsburgh tied the game at 3-all with just three seconds remaining in regulation, before getting the game winner in overtime.
Luke Morris,
Keenan McNeill, and
Carson Ricci each scored for Fredonia State.
Charles-Anthony Barbeau made 36 saves in goal as the Devils fell to 0-8-1 and 0-3-1 in the SUNYAC.
A power-play goal with 1:15 left in the first period by Aaron Catron put the Cardnials up 1-0.
Ricci tied the game 6:36 into the second period, with a helper from
Hudson Cameron. Spencer Bellina put the Cardinals back up at the 10:04 mark.
Fredonia tied the game on a power play goal by McNeill, with Morris getting the assist. The second period ended in a 2-2 tie.
Both teams traded goals in the third period. Morris gave the Blue Devils the first lead of the game, notching his second goal of the season at 13:39 of the third.
Garrison Gagnon and
Owen Arnold assisted.
The Devils were on the cusp of victory when Alexandro Moliner scored in the closing seconds. Vladislav Pshenichnikov would get the game winner in the extra frame for Plattsburgh on a 4-on-3 power play.
Beau Lane made 23 saves for the Cardinals, now 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the SUNYAC.
The Devils take on Skidmore on Saturday for a 4 p.m. skate in Steele Hall. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools a conference rivals. Skidmore joined the SUNYAC this season.
