FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Tied at 42 midway through the second half, the Fredonia State men's basketball team could not hold on in a 71-64 loss to Hilbert College on Wednesday.
Jason Douglas led the Devils with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Brian Kopp had 12 points, shooting 4-4 from three-point range.
The Devils largest lead of the game of eight points came at the 11:51 mark of the second half. With Fredonia State holding a 42-34 lead, the Hawks would explode on a 24-3 run to go up 58-45 with 3:44 left to play.
The Hawks were led by Jaden Mitchell with 18 points. Ne'Sean Fawlks had 14 rebounds.
The first half was even, with the Devils working their way to a 27-25 lead at the break.
The Devils shot a solid 14-18 (78 percent) from the line. However the Hawks would convert 21 of 34 attempts, including nine over the last 1:20 of the game.
Hilbert improves to 2-1.
The Devils drop to 0-2. They play host to Elmira next Tuesday.
