MORRISVILLE, N.Y. --
Gabby Irwin continued stellar offensive play with a goal and two assists in a post-season-clinching 5-0 win at Morrisville on Wednesday. Irwin had a hand in the first three scores, and
Bronwyn Madden -- the leading goal getter in the SUNYAC with 10 -- scored once.
Kerrigan Driskell,
Abby Herbst, and
Haley Drinon also scored.
The win puts the Devils (5-2-1 SUNYAC / 8-5-4 overall) in the SUNYAC Tournament with one game remaining.
The duo of Madden and Irwin provided the game's first goal just over six minutes in. Irwin made a long cross pass near the right sideline to Madden who was stationed just in front of the net, and tapped it in for an easy score.
The Devils got their second goal, again on an assist from Irwin. She passed the ball to Driskell right near the top edge of the box, and Driskell lofted a long arcing shot over the head of the Mustang's goaltender, Alyssa Denton.
The Devils took the 2-0 lead into the break. They held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
In the 54th minute, Irwin would add an an unassisted goal. Herbst added the fourth goal in the 79th minute on an assist from
Grace Mackey. Drinon put the final nail in the coffin in the 87th minute.
Abby Szymkowiak earned the shutout in goal with three saves. Alyssa Denton gave up four goals in 85 minutes for Morrisville. Cheyenne Thomas gave up one score in the final five minutes. The duo combined for six saves.
Irwin -- who now has a conference-best nine assists this season -- had eight assists in each of her first two season. She is the team's all-time assists leader at 25.
Morrisville falls to 1-7 and 3-10-1.
The team has its final regular-season game at Oswego on Saturday. The game will have implications on post-season seeding, with the Devils potentially earning a home game or first-round bye.
