FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Michael Byrns went six strong innings, allowing just two unearned runs, in Game 1 as the Devils won their fourth walkoff of the season, 6-5, against Thiel College. They took Game two, 4-2, in the first games this season at Ludwig Field.
Game 1
Byrns left the game with a 5-3 lead after six innings. Thiel would score three times in the top of the seventh off reliever Nate O'Brochta to tie it up, and saddle Burns with a no-decision.
In the bottom of the inning,
Tyler Curtis led off with a towering triple on an 0-2 pitch.
Tucker Schwab -- who hit a walkoff against Oneonta two games earlier -- then drove a ball to the wall for the game-winning hit. O'Brochta vultured the win.
Brady Ventura and
Alex Gannon both had two hits and a double.
Garrett Stuckey -- the Human Magnet -- was hit by pitch three times, and also had two of the Devils seven stolen bases.
Game 2
Fredonia H.S. grad
Owen Ludwig claimed the win going four innings and allowing two earned runs. Fellow Hillbilly alum
Derrick Walters followed with two scoreless innings before freshman
Connor Burkestone pitched a scoreless seventh for his first save of the year.
Both teams were limited to six hits, with Stuckey and Pagano collecting doubles for Fredonia State. They added four more stolen bases.
Winners of four straight, the Devils, now 9-12, are slated to take on Plattsburgh at home this weekend. Thursday's doubleheader vs. Hilbert has been rescheduled due to impending weather.
