Daytona Beach! Cheerleaders compete in NCA competition

DAYTONA, FL. -- The Fredonia State Cheerleading team made its way to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete at NCA College Cheer & Dance Nationals in the Intermediate All Girl D3 Division last week.  At this event, there were over 470 collegiate teams and over 10,000 participants from across the country. 

In their division, the Blue Devil Cheerleaders were up against 19 teams.  After their preliminary performance on Thursday they scored a percent perfection of 88.38 out of 100, which becomes 25% of their final score.  The entire preliminary performance only took a .50 deduction.

The Blue Devils went into finals on Friday holding 10th place, making final adjustments to execute their performance and technique to try and rank higher. Friday's score was worth 75% of their total. 

The team took to the Ocean Center floor for their finals performance on Friday. They improved their raw score from the preliminary by adjusting stunts and pyramid resulting in scoring higher in difficulty, but ended up with an extra deduction compared to the day prior. The team's final event score was an 87.40 which placed them in 12th place out of 19 division teams, the team executed its routine nearly flawlessly ending  just 1.16 points from the Top 10.

According to head coach Julie Troche, "The Blue Devils cheerleading team is headed in the right direction, improving their event score in comparison to the years prior. The 2024 nationals competition was their best performance score, since attending NCA college nationals three years ago."
