Pellechia sets new school mark

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- She was supposed to vault at Brockport, but the weather sent her to Westminster College in Pennsylvania. The change in venus did not deter Cara Pellechia on Saturday as she cleared 3.63m to set a new Fredonia State mark in the outdoor pole vault.

Pellechia cleared 3.18m on her first try, then 3.33m on her next vault. She would pass on 3.48m, and elect to try 3.63m (11'11''). After failing on her first two attempts, she cleared the bar for the new school mark.

Pellechia would take second overall, as Kendall Grossman of Division II Slippery Rock cleared the same height, but in one less try.

Pellechia is currently sitting 23rd nationally in the country in the pole vault.
