WAYNESBURG, Pa. --
Kyle Tedford's sacrifice fly resulted in the game-winning RBI as the Fredonia State baseball team claimed a 10-9 victory in its season-opening game. They dropped the nightcap in a darkness-shortened 10-2, six-inning loss in Game 2.
Game 1
The Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of a seven-inning scheduled contest. An RBI single from Tedford, and bases-loaded walks to
Tyler Curtis and
Alex Gannon got the offense going.
With the Devils up 6-3 in the top of the sixth, Bradford scored three times to tie the game.
Bradford took a one-run lead in the top of the seventh, and a two run lead in the top of the ninth, but the Devils would come back and tie the game both times.
In the seventh, a bases-loaded walk to
Riley Cardinali tied the game. The Devils had a chance to win the game with the bases still loaded and no out.
Tucker Schwab pinch hit, and ripped a one-hopper back to the pitcher for a double play to effectively end the rally.
Down two in the ninth, the Devils tied the game again when Gannon hit a two-run homerun to keep the Devils alive.
In the 10th with one out,
Christian Pagano walked,
Andrew Tucker singled, and
Domenic Hickok beat out a ground ball to first for a single to load the bases. Tedford then flew out to center, scoring Pagano with the game-winner.
Game 2
The second game started well for the Devils.
Peyton Ahlstrom worked a 1-2-3 first. The Panthers would then go to the long ball to put up some runs. A pair of two-run homeruns in the bottom of the second helped stake Bradford to a 5-0 lead as they would cruise to the victory.
Stuckey accounted for both Fredonia State runs, just missing his second homerun of the day. He would settle for a two-run double in the fifth inning.
Bradford ended the day with a 2-3 record.
The Devils now stand at 1-1 and will head to Myrtle Beach for the annual Spring Trip next week.
