FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team dropped its season-opening game, 2-0, vs. Trine on Friday. In a defensive battle, Trine scored the game's first goal midway through the third on a power play, and added an empty netter in the final minute for the win.
The first period was scoreless, with Fredonia State's
Charles-Anthony Barbeau making 13 saves. His counterpart, Kyle Kozma, had six stops.
At 6:28 into the second period, Trine's Tylar Blanchard was whistled for a game misconduct. After Fredonia State's
Sam Mollot came out of the box, the Devils had about four minutes of five-on-four action, but would not score.
The second period ended knotted at 0-0. Barbeau would have 24 saves, and Kozma 14.
Trine finally got on the board early in the third. With a five-on-three advantage, Logan Furstenau collected a rebound and pounded in a shot from short range, stuffing the puck past Barbeau. Bobby Price and Tim Organ assisted.

Both teams are back in Steele Hall tomorrow for a 4 p.m. game.
