FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match at the hands of SUNYAC foe Buffalo State on Wednesday. The Bengals remained undefeated at 11-0-1 while also earning two points in the
Battle by the Lake in the season-long all sports competition between the two schools.
The game's only goal came in the 70th minute. Fredonia State goalkeeper
Jack Phelan left the goal box and grabbed a loose ball outside the boundary. A red card was called on the touch. The Bengal's Diego Rivera took the direct kick and drove it past a diving
Thomas McDonald who entered the game following Phelan's red card.
Fredonia State played the rest of the game a man down, and put forth a valiant effort, but could not score as the Bengals focused on defense over the final 15 minutes.
The first have was scoreless, thanks in part to a spectacular diving grab by Phelan midway through the half. He finished the game with six saves in 70 minutes. McDonald was credited with three stops.
The Devils even their overall record at 6-6-2, while dropping to 1-3 in SUNYAC play.
Next up for the Devils is a trip to Oswego on Saturday.
