BINGHAMTON, N.Y. --- The Fredonia State women's tennis team dropped a nailbiter of a match at the Binghamton tennis center on Saturday morning, falling in a 4-3 contest to Plattsburgh State. Fredonia State managed to secure three single match victories, but the Cardinals earned the doubles match point and rallied for three singles wins to clinch the match.
In doubles competition, the Cardinals swept the Devils in all three matches. In a tight No. 1 doubles match the team of
Bernadette Gens and
Lucy Prevet fell 7-5 to Plattsburgh's
Ava Carey and
Jacklin Mitchell. In No. 2 doubles Plattsburgh State clinched the point with
Hallie Hurwitz &
Kristy Cantwell beating
Gabriella Farr &
Claire LeFevre 6-1 . In the No. 3 doubles match of the day
Sophia Olson &
Sierra Allen lost to the team of
Megan Phelps &
Sophia Gottschall 6-7 with a tie break 5-7.
In singles action, Gens and Prevet enjoyed victories with Gens beating Plattsburgh's Carey in the No. 1 singles 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 and Prevet in No. 2 singles defeating Hurwitz 6-4, 6-1. The Cardinals tied the match back up in the No 3. singles as Mitchell defeated Farr 6-3, 6-3 . Plattsburgh rattled off two more singles victories to earn the win with Gottschall beating LeFevre 6-0, 4-6 in the No. 4 singles and Cantwell earning the 6-3, 6-3 win over Olson in the No. 5 singles. Fredonia State's Allen rallied and won a close match in the No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 as well.
