FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Gabrielle Irwin scored two goals and
Bri Grazen had a goal and an assist to power the Fredonia State women's soccer team to a 4-2 win over Washington & Jefferson on Day 1 of the Blue Devil Classic on Friday.
Irwin opened the scoring in the fifth minute on a breakaway goal with a lead pass from
Katie Sellers. Her shot beat a diving goaltender to the right, hit the post and rolled in.
Fredonia State doubled its lead in the 28th minute when Grazen connected on a helper from
Jordan Barrett.
The Presidents halved the lead early in the second half when Audrey Chapman scored 3:13 into the frame.
Brooke Grazen would up the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted score, before Irwin's second goal made it a 4-1 game in the 70th minute.
Bri Grazen assisted.
Washington & Jefferson got its final goal from Makenna Mann with 2:08 left to play.
Fredonia State outshot W&J, 18-17, while the Presidents had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Dani Rubino made eight saves and gave up two scores for the Devils. Abby Hipkins made 11 saves and gave up four scores for the visitors.
The Devils are back on the pitch tomorrow with a 12:30 contest vs. Utica. The Pioneers lost to Oswego, 1-0, in the early game.
