Devils fall just short at Alfred

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State tennis team fell just short, 5-4, to Alfred University on Saturday. Caitlin Snyder and Sierra Allen each won singles. The Devils took a pair of doubles matches, with Bernadette Gens and Snyder taking No. 2 doubles (8-4), and Allen and Gabriella Farr taking No. 3 doubles (8-6).

Playing at No. 3 singles, Snyder had the most exciting match of the day. After dropping the first set 6-4 to Anna Gwozdz, she needed a tiebraker to take the second set, 7-6 (7-4). She outlasted Gwozdz taking the final set, 6-2.

Allen took No. 6 singles, 6-2 and 6-1.

Gabriella Gance dropped No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Gens was looking good at No. 2 winning the first set, 6-2. She was trailing 4-2 in the second before retiring on what was an extremely hot day.

Freshman Lucy Prevet fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, and 4-6 in another tightly contested matchup.

Farr fell at No. 5 singles, 6-2 and 6-1.

In the other match of the afternnoon, Gance and Prevet fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
