HOUGHTON N.Y. -- Fredonia State baseball used a big eighth inning to nearly win the game but would fall just short of the comeback, losing to the Highlanders 7-6.

To start the game Houghton would take the lead in the bottom of the second with Davis McMillan scoring a unearned run after he stole home to go up 1-0. At the bottom of the fourth with one out and the bases loaded for the Highlanders, the Devils would walk the next batter to score another run.

Houghton would score three runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh and look poised to run away with the game but Fredonia State would respond big at the top of the eighth.  

To start the eighth, Alex Gannon  would single and advance to second off of a fielding error. Next up, Garrett Stuckey would be walked with Gannon reaching third off a wild pitch. With runners on the corners, Tyler Curtis would single to right field bringing in Gannon for the score and moving Stuckey to second. 

Tucker Schwab would single next to load the bases and after a single to second base from AJ Roach the Devils would score again. Matt Wojcik would bat next for the Devils and would single to right field and driving in two runs. Fredonia State would finish the inning scoring two more unearned runs and cutting the Highlander lead down to just one. 

Unfortunately, the Devils would be stopped short in the ninth as the final batter struck out swinging with a runner on second to loose 7-6. 

Fredonia State was led by Tyler Curtis who would go 2-4 with one run and one RBI. AJ Roach finished the game hitting 2-4 with one run and one RBI and Matt Wojcik would bat 1-5 with one run and one RBI as well.

The Devils return to SUNYAC play this weekend as they host New Paltz with game one scheduled for Friday April 28th at 3:00 P.M. and a doubleheader scheduled the following day starting at noon.
