Season ends for Devils

GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils traveled to SUNY Geneseo Wednesday evening for the first game of the 2023 SUNYAC Tournament. Logan Dyck's 47-save performance was not enough to stop the Geneseo Knights, as they defeated the Blue Devils 3-0, officially eliminating them from the playoff tournament.

Geneseo had a golden opportunity to get on the board about seven-and-a-half minutes into the game. Fredonia State's Johnny Aonso and Bryce Witman were whistled for penalties within 12 seconds of each other, giving the Knights -- who lead the SUNYAC in power play goals -- a 3-on-5 for a minute and 48 seconds. Dyck made four saves and the Devils defense kept it scoreless.

Geneseo finally opened up the scoring 13:52 into the first period. Bryan Zurowski picked up a loose puck and had a wide open opportunity. Dyck got a piece of the shot before it trickled over the line giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later, Peter Morgan made it a 2-0 game.

Geneseo went up 3-0 with 2:06 left in the second period as Alex Wilkins scored.

Fredonia State finished the game with 21 shots on goal, and 39 shots in total. They also had four power play opportunities to Geneseo's two. Both teams were unable to convert on the man-advantage.

The Blue Devils finish the 2022-23 season with a 7-18 overall record. Geneseo moves to the semifinals with an 18-6-2 record.
