Knights shutout Devils

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Fredonia State men's hockey team dropped a 4-0 game at Geneseo on Friday evening.

Geneseo -- ranked No. 5 in the most recent DIII poll -- jumped out to an early lead, scoring 1:16 into the game when Alex Demeski found the net on Fredonia State goaltender Logan Dyck.

The Knights would up the lead to 2-0 at the 11:14 mark when Dakota Zarudny scored. The Knights pushed  the action with a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal in the period, and out shot Fredonia State 29-9.

Dyck made 18 saves in scoreless second period, with Geneseo outshooting the Devils 26-17. The Knights enjoyed an 18-12 shots-on-goal edge.

The third period was nearly even as far as shots, Geneseo holding a slim 19-18 edge, but the Knights were able to add two more scores late in the third.
Jared Thomas scored at the 14:40 mark, and a minute later, Luke Panchisin scored to make it 4-0.

The Devils were 0-1 on power plays, and Geneseo went 0-3. For the game, Geneseo had 44 shots on goal to Fredonia State's 34. Dyck would finish with 40 saves while giving up all four scores.

Jacob Torgner had 34 saves in earning the shutout for Geneseo, who improves to 10-2 and 5-1 in conference play.

The Devils fall to 2-7 overall, and 2-4 in SUNYAC play. They head to Brockport on Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
