Chatham claims victory over Devils

CHATHAM, Pa. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team fell to the defending Presidents Athletic Conference champion Chatham Cougars, 89-68, on Monday. The game begins a busy week for the Devils, as they have games Wednesday against Division I LeMoyne, then open conference play at Buffalo State on Saturday.

The Devils were led by Tyrese Fuller with 13 points and Aiden Proudfoot with 11. AJ Judd had a team-high eight rebounds to go along with eight points.

Chatham nailed a three pointer to start the game, aiding a 15-3 opening run, and would lead wire-to-wire. They would lead by as many as 20 in the first half, and hold a 39-24 advantage at the break.

The pace picked up for both teams in the second half as the Devils shot 53 percent (17-32) from the floor, including 5-10 three pointers.

The Cougars were able to hold off the Devils, however, outscoring them 50-44 in the period. They shot 45 percent (15-33) from the floor and were 7-19 from three-point land. They were aided by 18 trips to the free-throw line, going 13-18. The Devils were 5-9 at the charity stripe in the second half. 

Chatham (3-3) had four players in double digits, with Simon Boyer collecting 21 and Geoffrey Helm netting 17 points.

The Devils fall to 2-4. Their game at LeMoyne on Wednesday will be considered an exhibition game.
