BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team used four players scoring in double digits to pull out a 61-56 win vs. William Smith on Day 1 of the Brockport Tournament on Friday. The Devils improve to 3-0 and take on Keuka tomorrow afternoon.
Freshman
Grace Alexander led the Devils with 15 points, going 3-6 from three point land.
Renee Park added 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Allie Wandell added 10 points and eight rebounds, and
Caitlin Snyder went for 10 points and a team-high nine boards.
The Devils jumped out quickly, leading by ten, 13-3, just over three minutes into the game. That would prove to be the biggest lead for either team. The Herons would answer that with an identical 13-3 run to tie the game at 26. William Smith would gain the lead, 28-27, going into the half.
The game stayed close, with the Devils holding a one-point lead, 44-43, at the end of three.
William Smith's Amelia McCulley converted a layup with 4:10 remaining to give the Herons the lead, 54-53, late in the game. From there, the Devils went on an 8-0 run to which would lead them to the win. Wandell came up clutch, with six points in that span.
Brooke Jarvis finished with 18 points, and McCulley 14 for the Herons. Both teams grabbed 43 rebounds.
The Devils take on Keuka on Saturday at 1:00 in Brockport.
