FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team used four third-period goals and the strong goaltending of
Dalton Jerzak to defeat SUNY Canton, 5-2, on Saturday.
Johnny Malandruccolo netted a pair of goals, and
Antonio Demacopoulos and
Bryce Witman each had a goal and assist for the Devils. Jerzak made 25 saves in his first start of the season.
Canton scored first before Malandruccolo's first of two goals tied the game at 1-all near the end of the first period.
Canton regained the lead and seemed to be on its way with the only goal of the second period.
However, the Devils came out and dominated the third. Along with the four goals, they controlled play the second half of the period.
Witman tied the game at 6:26 of the third. With just over four minutes to play, Malandruccolo slipped the puck behind the Canton goalie to give the Devils their first lead of the night.
Just under two minutes later, Woodford scored on a power play to make it 4-2. An empty netter by Demacopoulos with 1:04 left capped the scoring.
Kelson Hooper made 26 saves for Canton, giving up four of the five scores.
The Devils travel to Buffalo State next Friday for a SUNYAC matchup.
