BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 MEADVILLE, P.A. -- The Fredonia State Women's Volleyball team fell in three straight sets to Hiram College. Then defeated Mount Aloysius three sets to one to start off the Allegheny Gator Classic on Friday night. The second contest gave the Blue Devils their first win of the year and improved their record to 1-8-0.

The Devils dropped the first match by scores of 25-10, 25-21, and 25-14.

The Blue Devils recorded 21 kills on 105 total attempts to earn a .019 hitting percentage over the three sets.

Against Mount Aloysius, Gabrielle Chilcott smashed 13 kills with support from Gabrielle Sordetto with 11, and Erin Callahan with 8 kills. Kourtney Krchniak had five aces and 32 assists. Also,Elora Sherman had five aces. Kailea Sullivan recorded a team high 16 digs.

The Devils won by set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 26-28, and 25-20.

The Blue Devils started off hot in the first set, going up 3-1 and only lost the lead for one possession for the rest of the set.

In second set, while down 4-2 the Devils went on a seven point streak that gave them the lead for the rest of the set.

The third set was much different for the Blue Devils as they start off with a 6-1 lead and didn't let up until they were up 19-13. The Mounties struck back with a strong run of their own, tallying six unanswered points. This ultimately gave Mount Aloysius the momentum that carried them to their lone victory set.

The fourth and final set of the match was all in Fredonia States favor, as they outscored the Mounties 15-3 to start the set. Mount Aloysius battled back to close the Devils lead to 20-23, but Fredonia State was able to close them out with the final two points.

The Blue Devils recorded 48 kills on 134 total attempts to earn a .179 hitting percentage over the four sets.

Coach, Geoff Braun, had some words to say after both matches, "We finally earned our first win of the season. The athletes deserve to have something to show for their efforts. This is a special team when it comes to staying positive throughout adversity.  Kourtney's leadership has been impressive throughout the season. Tonight she put the team on her shoulders and refused to lose. She ran a great offense for us."

The Devils look to grab another victory, as they close out the tournament against Allegheny tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
