MEADVILLE, PA -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a pair of road games to Allegheny College on Tuesday. They dropped the opener, 10-3, and went down 8-5 in the second game.
Game 1
Tyler Phillips led off the game with his ninth double of the season. Johnny Genua walked, and the duo executed a double steal. It was the 23rd swipe of the season for Phillips, who tied Taylor Gahagen's team record of 23 stolen bases set in 2011. A pair of strikeouts and infield pop out prevented the Devils from scoring.
Luke Kenyon and
Tylor Murphy led off the second inning with base hits. A balk and wild pitch scored Kenyon. After a strikeout, Murphy was cut down at the plate on the next play trying to score on an infield ground ball.
The Devils tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Genau cracked his fourth homerun of the season with one out.
Ryan Hann would hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to bring home
Pat Bigham.
Josh Posnick took the loss.
Game 2
The Devils came out of the gate with two runs in the first. Genau ripped a one-out single. Phillips followed with a single, and an error would allow Genau to come around and score and Phillips advance to third. Bigham's 11th double of the season scored Phillips, but Bigham would get caught trying to stretch it into a triple.
Allegheny bounced back with two in the first, one in the second, and five in the third to take an 8-2 lead.
In the fourth, Kenyon would single and then score on a double by
Jake Wentland, making it 8-3.
In the seventh, a walk and singles by Genau and Phillips loaded the bases.
Ethan Blaisdell drove in the first run with a hit. A groundout by Hann would score the final run for the Devils.
Fredonia State falls to 10-21, while the Gators improve to 22-8.
