FREDONIA, N.Y. -- After Cortland connected on a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh inning to give them a 3-2 lead,
Emily Chelius stepped to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with one on and delivered. She hit a no-doubter homerun down the leftfield line to give the Devils the walk-off win. She also pitched a complete game on the mound.
Chelius scattered six hits, struck out four and walked none. Her homerun came after
Maria Caviris worked Cortland's Izzy Milazzo for a walk.
The Devils were limited to two hits, with
Megan Guidry having the team's other hit.
Emily Ornstein had three of Cortland's six hits.
In Game 2, the Devils suffered a five-inning 16-2 loss.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning. The Devils run came on an RBI single by Caviris.
Cortland took control in the second inning with six runs. They added two in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth.
Fredonia State scored its other run in the third inning when
Alyssa Santiago singled home
Allie Wandell.
The Devils and Cortland both stand at 1-1 in the SUNYAC. Fredonia State moves to 4-12 overall and Cortland is now 8-8. The Devils play host to Oswego on Monday. Game 1 is set for a 3 p.m. start.
