CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a pair of games to Cortland, 11-4 and 9-2, on Saturday.
Game 1
The Devils found themselves down 4-0 in the top of the fifth before getting on the board.
Pat Bigham and
Tylor Murphy singled. They both moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by
Ryan Hann and Bigham would score on a ground out by
Ethan Blaisdell.
Cortland would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 8-1. They would add three more in the seventh.
The Devils rallied in the ninth inning, putting up three runs.
Johnny Genau homered with one out. That was followed with a walk to Kenny Benitiez and a
Tyler Phillips single. After a pitching change, a walk to Bigham loaded the bases.
Jordan Maher came through with a two-run single.
Game 2
The Devils kept the momentum and scored first in the second game. Phillips singled, stole second and scored on a single by
Luke Kenyon.
Cortland tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
The teams traded zeroes over the next three innings. Cortland took its first lead with a pair of runs in the fifth, then exploded for six runs in the sixth.
The Devils would add a run in the seventh. Phillips doubled home
Ryan Davis, who had walked.
Bigham, Kenyon and Phillips each had three hits apiece in the doubleheader.
The Devils fall to 9-10 on the season, and 0-5 in the SUNYAC. Cortland is now 18-6 and 5-0 in the conference.
