Cortland takes two from Devils

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a pair of games to Cortland, 11-4 and 9-2, on Saturday.

Game 1
The Devils found themselves down 4-0 in the top of the fifth before getting on the board. Pat Bigham and Tylor Murphy singled. They both moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Hann and Bigham would score on a ground out by Ethan Blaisdell

Cortland would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 8-1. They would add three more in the seventh.

The Devils rallied in the ninth inning, putting up three runs. Johnny Genau homered with one out. That was followed with a walk to Kenny Benitiez and a Tyler Phillips single. After a pitching change, a walk to Bigham loaded the bases. Jordan Maher came through with a two-run single.

Game 2
The Devils kept the momentum and scored first in the second game. Phillips singled, stole second and scored on a single by Luke Kenyon.

Cortland tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.

The teams traded zeroes over the next three innings. Cortland took its first lead with a pair of runs in the fifth, then exploded for six runs in the sixth.

The Devils would add a run in the seventh. Phillips doubled home Ryan Davis, who had walked.

Bigham, Kenyon and Phillips each had three hits apiece in the doubleheader.

The Devils fall to 9-10 on the season, and 0-5 in the SUNYAC. Cortland is now 18-6 and 5-0 in the conference.
