DAVENPORT, FLA -- The Fredonia State baseball team tied Game 1 in the top of the seventh inning, only to fall 4-3 in extra innings vs. Greenville College on Monday. They roared back in Game 2 as
Ryan Howard,
Kenny Ynoa, and
Kevin Mahon combined on a one-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory.
The Devils improved to 7-2 on the season.
Game 1
Greeneville scored twice in the bottom of the first off starting pitcher
Josh Posnick.
In the top of the second,
Tylor Murphy doubled and scored on a groundout by
Ryan Hann to make it a 2-1 game.
Greenville added an unearned run in the second. An error followed by a triple gave them a 3-1 lead. Posnick would settle in from there and hold Greenville scoreless over the next three innings. He finished with five innings pitched, struck out six and gave up two earned runs.
The Devils cut the lead in the fifth. Hann walked before Greenville mishandled a sacrifice bunt, pushing Hann to third base. He would score on a sacrifice fly by
Tyler Phillips.
The Devils tied the game in the top of the seventh.
Ethan Blaisdell ripped a two-out, pinch-hit double. Phillips would drive in pinch runner Burnie Jonis with a base hit.
Greenville would claim the victory after an error, sacrifice bunt, and base hit accounted for the winning run.
Game 2
Ryan Howard set the stage for the second game. The senior would toss four shutout innings surrendering a single hit.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third after back-to-back doubles by
Johnny Genau and
Pat Bigham.
The Devils tacked on three more in the fourth. Hann and Murphy ripped one-out singles. Greenville then mishandled a bunt by
Ryan Davis to score Murphy and put runners at second and third. Anthony Kinney drove in the next run on a fielder's choice. Phillips drove in the third run on a sacrifice, giving the Devils a 4-0 lead,
Kenny Ynoa relieved Howard and tossed two hitless innings. The Devils added two more runs in support on Ynoa. Hann was hit by a pitch and stole second and took third on an errant throw. After Murphy walked, the duo executed a double steal with Hann coming around to score. Davis drove in Hann with a base hit to make it 6-0.
Kevin Mahon threw the seventh, allowing one hit and striking out a pair.
The Devils had 10 hits as a team, with Murphy, Phillips, and Bigham each accounting for a pair of hits.Hann would reach base three times in four plate appearances, scoring two runs.
The Devils take on Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in Auburndale, Fla.
