FREDONIA, N.Y. --- Fredonia State men's hockey team traveled to Cortland, for a SUNYAC Quarterfinal matchup, on Saturday night. In an extremely physical contest, the Blue Devils fell with a final score of 5-1. The Devils lone goal of the game came from David Sudbrink, assisted by Jake Blackwell and Ryan Bailey. Goaltender, Logan Dyck had 31 saves and a .912% save percentage.

Fredonia State controlled both ends of the ice for the first 10 minutes of the game, until Cortland went to the powerplay. Nick Grupp faked a shot from the point and found Alex Storjohann down low, to give Cortland a 1-0 lead.

Fredonia State was awarded a five minute powerplay, after Matt Letmanski took a high hit from Nick Grupp, of Cortland. Grupp was ejected from the game, as Fredonia State looked to convert the extended man advantage opportunity. 

With 39 seconds remaining in the first period, the Blue Devils found their first goal of the game on the powerplay. Blackwell found Bailey at the point, where he fired a shot on goal that the goalie couldn't handle. The rebound kicked out to Sudbrink, who put it home.

The first period ended with a score of 1-1, while shots on goal were dead locked at 12.

The second period was dead even, until Cortland was able to find their second goal of the game at the 10:54 mark. The Devils goaltender, Dyck, was screened by multiple players and was unable to track Matt Jahn's shot.

The Blue Devils had to kill four penalties within the second period, making it difficult to find their rhythm on offense.

The Red Dragons went into the second intermission up 2-1, while outshooting the Blue Devils 15-12.

The third period slowed the game down, as both teams were looking to eliminate all mistakes.

With 15:32 remaining in the game, Cortland found the back of the net after a scrum in front. However, Fredonia State caught some luck as this goal was called off due to a an early whistle.

After a Blue Devils turnover in their defensive zone, Michael Sciore found Cameron Knowlton on the back door for Cortlands third goal of the game.

Cortland capped the scoring with two empty net goals, to close out the game 5-1.

Fredonia State oushot Cortland 40-36 in total.

Fredonia States finishes the year with a 10-11-1 overall record. The Blue Devils look to next year as they bring back most of their team.
