FREDONIA, N.Y. --- Fredonia State Men's Hockey Team hosted Nazareth College, in a Tuesday night matchup. The Blue Devils were unable to grab the win as the fell to the Flyers in overtime, with a final score of 4-3. After a Craig McCabe goal that tied things at 3-3, Henry McKinney scored the game winner in the 3-on-3 overtime period.
The Golden Flyers got onto the board first, scoring 32 seconds into the first period.
Nazareth was able to increase their lead to 2-0, with a short-handed goal by McKinney. This goal came at the 5:18 mark of the first period.
Bryce Witman was able to cut into the Flyers lead, with an unassisted goal at the 14:26 mark of the first.
The Fylers were able to get the lone goal of the second period, at the 4:51 mark, to give them a 3-1 lead.
The third period was controlled by the Blue Devils, as they scored two unanswered goals to tie the game.
Ryan Bailey found the back of the net at the 10:02 mark, that was assisted by Witman.
McCabe was able to tie the game at three after finding the back of the net, with six minutes remaining the game. His goal was assisted by
Ethan Kirbis and
Jake Blackwell.
Both third period goals came on the powerplay.
Nazareth would convert the overtime score, at the 1:42 mark, to improve to 3-2-0 on the season, while the Devils fell to 1-3-0.
Logan Dyck made 37 saves for Fredonia State while giving up four goals. Matt Sayles had 17 saves and three goals allowed for the visiting Flyers.
The Devils were able to grab two powerplay goals, while Nazareth came up empty on six opportunities.
The Blue Devils look to their next contest, as they host Morrisville on Saturday night.
