FREDONIA, N.Y. -- After battling Buffalo State to a 3-3 tie late in the third period, the Fredonia State hockey team scored two late goals to claim its first win of the season, a 5-3 victory. It was also the teams' first SUNYAC game of the season.

Anders Johnson scored the go-ahead goal with 1:30 left in the game to give the Devils their first lead. Thirtytwo seconds later, Bryce Witman added an exclamation point to power the Devils to the victory. After going down 3-1 early on, the Devils rallied for the game's final four goals.

Fredonia State's Jake Murphy scored 1:41 into the first period. He was assisted by Johnson and Ryan Bailey.

The Bengals tied things at 1-all at the 18:36 mark on a score by Chris Blango.

Buffalo State added two second-period goals to go up 3-1, the first of which came on a power play.

Jake Blackwell cut the lead to 3-2 with an unassisted score. Ryan Bailey tied the game 3-3 at the 13:55 mark. He was assisted by Gregg Lee and Craig McCabe. The four second-period goals by both teams came over a four-minute span.

Johnson and Witman then went to work late in the third to finish the game. Johnson, Blackwell, and Bailey both finished with a goal and an assist. McCabe had a pair of helpers.

Logan Dyck made 28 saves for Fredonia State while giving up three goals. Emil Norrman had 33 saves and five goals allowed for the visiting Bengals.

The Devils came up empty on four power plays, and Buff State scored once in two opportunities.

Fredonia State improves to 1-2-0, and picks up a point in the Battle by the Lake in the competition for the traveling trophy, the Lake Erie Cup.

Buffalo State falls to 2-1.
