Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Devils fall late

HAMBURG, N.Y -- A jumper and a pair of free throws inside the final 31 seconds eliminated the Devils one-point lead, as the Fredonia State men's basketball team fell to Hilbert College, 78-75, on Tuesday. The Devils led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but could not hang on.

Aaron Collins and AJ Knight combined for 10 three pointers and each scored 22 points. DeAndre Hayes added 10 assists.

Hilbert maintained an early advantage, gaining its biggest lead of the game of seven points, 20-13, at the 13:40 mark. Things would then begin to go the Devils' way. A 10-1 run gave them a two point lead, 23-21. Their biggest lead of the half would come at the 4:09 mark, 39-31.

The half would end with the Devils up, 41-38.

Fredonia State would extend its lead to 59-45 eight minutes into the second half.

Hilbert would whittle away at the lead and eventually surpass the Devils, 62-61, following a layup by Austin Boies with 6:39 left to play. There would be four lead changes and two ties before the Hawks prevailed.

The Hawks had three players in double-digit scoring, led by Nevada Eldridge with 21 points.

The Devils fall to 0-4, while Hilbert improves to 2-1. The Devils take on Canisius College on Friday.
