ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team fell to Trinity (Texas) University, 83-48, in the first round of the Chuck Resler Invitational at the U of R on Friday. Matt Aebersold led the Devils with 10 points and eight rebounds.
AJ Knight added nine, and Aaron Cooper and
My'Kell Kaigler chipped in eight points apiece.
The teams kept things close the first six-and-a-half minutes. A free throw by
Alon Kremerman put the Devils up 8-6. At the 12:53 mark, a layup by Trinity's AJ Clark gave them a 9-8 lead that they would maintain the rest of the way.
With 3:48 left to play, a layup by Kremerman pulled the Devils to within a point, 20-19. Trinity closed the half on a 12-4 run to take a 32-23 led into the break.
Trinity turned up the heat in the second half. They would hit on 56 percent of their shots from the floor (19-of-34) and three-point land (5-of-9) in the frame.
For the game, the Devils struggled from the field, shooting 7-of-34 (21 percent) from three-point range, and hit 18-of-63 (29 percent) from the floor.
Trinity had three players score in double digits, led by Clark with 15. They improve to 1-0.
The loss dropped the Devils to 0-2. They will play in the consolation game on Saturday.
