Devils fall at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men' soccer team dropped a 2-0 match at Brockport on Wednesday. The Eagles maintained their top spot in the SUNYAC standings.

The Devils were able to get three shots on goal -- one each by Jacob Gennaro, Jacob Vallas, and Camron Walsh. Brockport's Andrew Taylor stopped all three attempts in earning the shutout.

Fredonia State goalkeeper Tanner Stutzman made seven saves and allowed two goals.

Brockport had six shots on goal, and received scores from Max Voyer in the 49th minute and Russ Domm in the 72nd minute. They stay undefeated in the conference at 5-0, and improve to 7-1-4 overall.

Overall, Brockport outshot the Devils, 16-6. The Devils held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

"This was one of our best efforts of the season," said head coach PJ Gondek. "It was a good old fashioned SUNYAC battle. Our Achilles heel is when we gave up a goal, our heads drop, and we do not give ourselves a shot at evening up the score. The second goal broke our back."

The Devils fall to 1-7-3 overall and 0-4-2 in the SUNYAC. They are back home this weekend vs. Potsdam. The team will play host to its annual Alumni Game in the morning, then take on the Bears for a 1:30 p.m. start. Later that evening, former goaltender Matt Borchard will be inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame, along with the 1985 and 1986 soccer teams that went to the NCAA Tournament.
