FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's return to intercollegiate competition after over a year on pause ended with a 16-6 women's lacrosse loss Saturday to the Allegheny College Gators at University Stadium.
Senna Perelman led a balanced Gator offense with four goals while Eva Malagise had three goals.
Erin Woods,
Bri Emery, and
Madeline Haney had two goals each for the Blue Devils, who hadn't had a home game in 700 days. It was also the first competition by any Fredonia State team in 374 days.
The teams traded goals in the early going with Woods and Emery scoring for the Blue Devils. The Gators took control with a 5-0 run which consisted of five players scoring one goal each. The Blue Devils scored the next three goals, including two by Haney, to cut their deficit to 7-5 early in the second half. A 9-0 Allegheny run put the game out of reach.
Emery had eight draw controls and
Sydney Buchko six draw controls in her first collegiate game for the Fredonia State.
Sadie Brown collected three ground balls and
Ally Kilburn was credited with two caused turnovers. Allegheny starting goalkeeper Fiona Barrett made eight saves while
Emily Carr made nine saves for the Blue Devils, who'll return to action Wednesday at Buffalo State, the first of eight SUNYAC games in this abbreviated season.
