CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Fredonia State Men's Hockey Team (4-6-1, 2-4 SUNYAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead but couldn't hold on as the Blue Devils fell to Cortland (7-4-1, 5-2-1 SUNYAC), 4-2, to wrap up the fall semester.
Senior
Chandler Judd (Piedmont, S.C.) opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the game. Freshman
Ryan Bailey (Anchorage, Alaska) won a faceoff. The score would remain 1-0 until 7:14 into the second period when Judd scored on a rebound.
Unfortunately, that lead would not hold as Cortland scored the last four goals of the game.
A Cortland goal at 8:09 of the second period made the score 2-1, a lead the Blue Devils would hold until the third period.
Cortland scored three goals in the third, including one on the power play and one while the teams were skating three aside.
The Blue Devils pulled the goalie twice in the last five minutes to try and cut into the lead. The first time, with 4:54 remaining and on the power play, but did not convert with the two man advantage, and for the final 1:29.
Sophomore goalie
Zach Willms (Camrose, Alberta) made his second start of the year and turned aside 32 shots.
The Blue Devils will return to the ice on January 7th in a non-conference game at Chatham.
