Blue Devils win big in non-conference matchup

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Fredonia State Women's Basketball Team (3-1, 0-0 SUNYAC) travelled to Pitt-Bradford (2-3, 0-0 AMCC) for a non-conference matchup on Friday night. The Blue Devils used a strong second quarter en route to an 84-64 victory.
 
After the first quarter of play, Fredonia held an 18-14 advantage. The Blue Devils saw eleven of those points come from Renee Park (Union Springs, N.Y.). The sophomore started the game with the hot hand, shooting 4-7 from the floor.
 
Fredonia State had a critical second quarter to turn the tides on the game. The visitors opened up the stanza with a 14-2 run with half of their points coming from senior, Katie Pitcher (Fulton, N.Y.).
 
With the Blue Devils holding a 32-16 lead, the home team went to the line to make the score 32-18 with 6:41 left in the half.
 
From there, Fredonia State went on a 12-2 run to take go up 44-20 with 1:59 remaining. After closing points from both teams, the Blue Devils went into the locker room with a 47-24 advantage.
 
The second half of the play stayed even, with the home team holding a 40-37 advantage over the final 20 minutes.
 
The Devils' strong second quarter proved to be enough, holding the lead for the remainder of the game.
 
Fredonia State was led by Park's double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Park also dished out eight assists.
 
Morgan Davis (Allegany, N.Y.) and Pitcher were the Devils' next highest scorers with 13 and 11, respectively.
 
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow in another road contest against Medaille. The game is slated for 2:00 PM.
