FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State Women's Soccer Team earned a 3-1 victory over visiting Brockport (7-7-2, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 10-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the SUNYAC.
The first half of play started with both teams trying to gain the advantage of possession. During the opening 23 minutes neither team was able to get a shot on goal.
Lexi Lindamer (Lewiston, N.Y.) changed that narrative in the 24
th minute. The junior found herself on the receiving end of a perfect through ball from
Gabby Alston (Niskayuna, N.Y.).
Lindamer used her speed to create a one-on-one with the Brockport goalkeeper and placed her shot into the lower left part of the goal.
The Blue Devils kept the pressure on, controlling much of the game for the rest of the half. Alston put a shot on net from 20 yards out that nearly went under the goaltender in the 41
st minute.
The visitors weren't going away with out a fight. With three minutes left in the half Brockport played a corner kick that was on net. Fredonia State couldn't clear the ball and went into the locker room 1-1.
The second half was all Fredonia State with the home team adding two more goals to regain the lead for good.
The first goal came in 59
th minute from Alston. This time she was on the receiving end of a great through ball from teammate,
Kayleigh Daniels (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). Alston one-timed the pass and chipped the Brockport keeper.
Daniels stayed involved, getting a goal of their own just two minutes later. The senior collected a loose ball off a corner kick and put it home to finish the scoring for Fredonia State.
The Blue Devils finished with seven shots, all being on net, and three corner kicks.
Alston and Lindamer led the team with three shots each.
Sabrina Suriani (Manlius, N.Y.) recorded four saves over 90 minutes.
Fredonia State returns to action tomorrow against Geneseo. Kickoff is at 1:00 and the game will serve as the team's Senior Day.
