Blue Devils blank Plattsburgh, 5-0

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State senior goaltender Anton Rosen made a triumphant return to the lineup Friday in a 5-0 victory over the Plattsburgh Cardinals.

Having missed eight straight games due to injury, Rosen made 33 saves to post his second collegiate shutout and Jasper Korican-Barlay had a pair of goals as the Blue Devils improved to 2-7-2 in the SUNYAC and 5-9-6 overall.

Jacob Haynes, Hugo Gamache, and Tommy Martyn added goals. It was the first collegiate goal for Gamache, who was appearing in his 26th game.

Korican-Barlay opened the scoring at 3:20 of the first period when he put away a rebound following Anders Johnson's shot from the left point. Haynes made it 2-0 when he sidestepped a defender and beat Plattsburgh goaltender Jimmy Poreda following a neutral zone steal and pass by Victor Tracy. It was the 11th goal of the season for Haynes, which leads the Blue Devils.

Gamache's wrister from the high slot came at the 18:40 mark of the second period two seconds after a Plattsburgh penalty had expired.

Both Fredonia State goals in the third period came as Plattsburgh was attempting to kill off a five-minute major. Korican-Barlauy's sixth goal of the season, again on a rebound, made it 4-0 at the 4:55 mark. Tracy earned his second assist of the game and his team-leading 17th of the season. Martyn's third goal of the season, a slapshot from the point, came while the Blue Devils had a 5-on-3 advantage later in the power play.

All that remained was Rosen's bid for the shutout, which earned him the game's No. 1 star and the Fredonia State Booster Club Player of the Game. Korican-Barlay was the No. 2 star and Gamache, who added an assist, was the No. 3 star.

The Blue Devils also played well defensively in front of Rosen. They combined to block 19 shots, with 13 players having at least one block and Max Blitz leading the way with three.

It was just Fredonia State's second shutout of Plattsburgh in the history of the series. The teams have met 86 times including Friday. The previous shutout was by Rick Cazares on Feb. 4, 2005, at Steele Hall.

Next up for the Blue Devils is the annual Pink The Rink game Saturday vs. Potsdam. Tickets are still available and go on sale at 6 p.m. in the Steele Hall ticket booth. Game time is 7 p.m.
