PLATTSBURGH, NY- The Fredonia State men's basketball team dropped a 71-65 contest at Plattsburgh Friday evening.
Dydy Bryan led the way with 14 points and six assists.
De'Quan Smith had 12 points and
Tyler Roberts added 11.
Chad Biersbach and
Moussa Samassa both had nine points and seven rebounds.
The first half ended with the Blue Devils up 35-32. Fredonia State went 6-13 behind the arc and shot 42 percent from the field. Plattsburgh shot 40 percent in the half, and was 3-11 from long range.
The Devils led by seven points on four different occasions in the opening frame.
Plattsburgh started a 19-6 run at the 10:35 mark of the second half.
Down 50-43, they found themselves in the lead 61-56 with four minutes left to play. A layup by Ness at the 7:13 mark tied the game at 52. Ness converted another basket on the next trip down the floor to give Plattsburgh its first lead of the game.
Fredonia State made a final push when a basket by Samassa cut the margin to three, 61-58, with 2:24 left. Plattsburgh answered back with four-straight free throws and the Devils would get no closer.
Plattsburgh (5-8 SUNYAC / 8-12 overall) held a slight 44-42 edge in rebounding for the game. The biggest statistical discrepancy was at the free-throw line. The Cards were 17-21, including 14-16 in the second half, while the Devils were 4-6.
Four Cardinals achieved double-digit scoring, with Ness dropping a team high 16 while adding 12 rebounds and four blocks.
The Devils fall to 3-10 in the SUNYAC, and 7-13 overall. They face Potsdam on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tipoff.
