FREDONIA, NY- The Fredonia State women's basketball team put together a strong third quarter and were trailing just two points before Brockport used a decisive 20-6 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 78-62 win on Tuesday.
Katie Pitcher led Fredonia State with 16 points.
Anna Chiacchia contributed 14 points and four assists.
The end of the first quarter had the Blue Devils leading 16-13. The Devils held the lead for most of the first half, with Brockport's first lead coming at the 6:14 mark of the second quarter. A Bailey Pratt three pointer put the visitors up, 26-25.
There would be two more lead changes before Brockport's 7-0 run to end the half. They would take a 37-30 lead into the locker room.
Pitcher led the first half scoring for the Blue Devils with eight points, while Chiacchia and
Rae White both had six.
Brockport held a big advantage on the glass in the first half, 29-16, including an 11-1 edge in offensive rebounds. Kylee Rosbrook and Pratt contributed with 11 points each in the half.
The Blue Devils came out firing in the third quarter, shooting 67 percent from the field and going 4-5 from behind the arc.
They rattled off a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the half at 49-47. The run was capped by a three-point shot from
Audrey Craffey to give the Devils the lead.
Brockport would come back to tie the game at 54, and would lead by two, 58-56, at the close of the third..
The Golden Eagles outscored Fredonia State 20-6 in the fourth to ultimately secure the win. Pratt led the offensive charge by going 6-9 from three-point range for the game and leading the team with 20 points. Rosbrook had 16 points while Chelsea Henry had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Lauren Mickley led Fredonia State with eight rebounds and White had nine points and three steals.
Brockport moves to 9-10 on the year and 6-6 in the SUNYAC.
Fredonia State drops to 7-12 with a 3-9 SUNYAC record.
The Blue Devils hit the road against Plattsburgh and Potsdam this weekend, with tipoff against Plattsburgh being Friday at 5:30 p.m.
