FREDONIA, NY - The Fredonia State men's basketball reached a season-high in points in a 97-80 win over New Paltz on Saturday. Four Blue Devils scored in double-digits.
Moussa Samassa led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds,
Dydy Bryan contributed with 19 points and eight assists,
De'Quan Smith had 18 points -- all on three-point buckets -- and
Tyler Roberts had 14 points, including going 4-4 from deep.
At the end of the first half, Fredonia State led 46-39. Samassa led the way with 12 points. Roberts and
Chad Biersbach both contributed eight points.
New Paltz went 14-14 from the charity stripe in the first half and 5-7 from behind the arc. Fredonia State went 12-16 from the line and 4-11 from three-point land. The Devils closed the half on a 15-7 run.
Smith nailed his second three of the half to bring the Blue Devils to a 10-point lead, 46-36, with 1:09 left to play. It was their biggest of the half. New Paltz hit a three to end the scoring in the first half.
The Blue Devils enjoyed a second half explosion due to a plethora of three pointers. They went 9-11 from three in the second half, helping them outscore the Hawks 51-41. Fredonia State rattled off a 15-2 run to bring their lead to 63-48 with 14:12 left to play.
By the 9:07 mark, the Devils would lead by twenty, 78-58, and New Paltz would not threaten the rest of the way.
The Blue Devils went 13-22 from deep and shot 52 percent from the field.
The win moves them to 8-15 on the year and 4-12 in the SUNYAC. They play host to Oneonta tomorrow with a 4 p.m. tipoff.
